Green Lines on screen when using Tiny Pilot. Especially when moving the mouse
- @david
I had the tiny pilot device for about 1 month now. It was functioning fine so far. But lately I started getting green Lines on the screen (On my personnal computer not the target computer) when using Tiny Pilot. Especially when moving the mouse. I breaks the immersion and can be quite bothersome when doing tedious work. My tiny pilot device and the target computer are both connected to the router directly via ethernet cable. What could be the issue here. Please help. Does it have to do with any network issue, the video output, or could it be that the cold weather is affecting the device? (The device is seating in a room, however the room is a little cold due to the cold weather outside.

Hi @Sid, I'm sorry your TinyPilot is displaying these green lines in its video output.
Thanks for sharing all those details. It seems unlikely that this is a connection or network issue, and TinyPilot should run as expected even if it's a little cold (so long as there's no condensation).
We've seen instances of green lines when there's a mismatch between the display setting the target machine outputs and the display settings TinyPilot expects - we have a few examples in this FAQ, although they're a little extreme. We haven't had reports of green lines appearing when moving the target machine's mouse cursor. Could you share a screenshot (or a video) showing these green lines?
Could you also share a TinyPilot log for me to review? On your TinyPilot's web interface, go to System > Logs and click Get Shareable URL. Then paste the link in your reply.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Hi There.

and I am not sure if tiny pilot allows me to take video capture of the screen, not sure how to do that. But the better describe it, it is the same lines as the first photo is in the FAQ page you sent me but a bit less. In my case they come and go disappearing in fractions of seconds. so it is a bit hard to capture right at that moment as it is flickering. I have included screenshots of display settings of my target computer and my tiny pilot device. The target computer only gives me refresh rate options of 42hz and 60 hz while tiny pilot has a whole range of options from 23 hz to 50 hz (50 is the max that tiny pilot allows me to have right now). Right now I am duplicating display between tiny pilot and the target computer. Do you think just disabling the target computer display and just using tiny pilot's display might fix this issue?- In reply todavid⬆:
and it works normally most of the time. It doesn't do that all the time but from time to time it does it just enough to be noticeable. I am thinking it might be the room temperature maybe (58 degrees Farenheit). Because after I set a miny heater next to the target computer and the tiny pilot device it seems to be doing that less now. Do you think it could be a temperature issue? (It was very cold, windy and snowy up here lately)

Thanks for sharing those logs and the additional information, @Sid!
The logs suggest your TinyPilot is running normally - it isn't reporting any voltage or temperature concerns.
Your description of the image sounds like it could be a mismatch between the target machine's display setting output and what TinyPilot is receiving. If you manage to capture a screenshot of the green lines, that would really help. Can I confirm whether you're using a display adapter (like VGA to HDMI adapter or similar)?
Could you try setting your target machine's internal display refresh rate to 60Hz, and TinyPilot's refresh rate to 30Hz and see if that improves the display behavior?
And could you tell me more about your target machine? For example, is it a laptop or something else? Could you tell me the make and model of the target machine too?
Do you think just disabling the target computer display and just using tiny pilot's display might fix this issue?
If the target machine is a laptop or and all-in-one desktop, you can try turning off the display to see if it changes the behavior here.
Do you think it could be a temperature issue?
It seems unlikely to be a temperature issue if you're connecting with HDMI since it's a digital signal. 58 Fahrenheit is well within normal operating temperature, so I don't think that's a concern, but I'll keep it in mind as we troubleshoot.
Do the green lines appear when you're performing specific tasks on the target machine?
Hi. No I am not using a display adapter. I have tiny pilot connected directly to the laptop via HDMI. I set the target machine to 60 hz refresh rate and tiny pilot to 30 hz refresh rate like you recommended but it did not change anything. The issue still continues. It is not all the time but when it starts doing it won't stop for a few minutes before going back to normal again for some reason.
I managed to capture some of the green lines on the screen but because it flickers I could not capture enough of it. (Still what I have should be helpful. See attached screenshots. I included screenshots at these links. Look at the upper right corner of each screenshots)

https://imgur.com/yW6MfOOThe target machine is a laptop (Dell Latitude 5430)
Turning off the laptop primary display and using tiny pilot as my primary display has not changed anything
The green lines seem to appear at random moment, not when I am doing specific tasks. Is there anything else I can try that would help?- David @david2025-01-10 12:13:05.616Z
Thanks so much for all those details and those screenshots, @Sid.
I haven't seen this exact issue before - the closest I've seen is the scrambled images that I shared before that look much more severe.
Is there anything else I can try that would help?
I'd like to test your TinyPilot connected to a different target machine to see if the green lines still appear. If the lines appear with a different target machine (i.e., not a Dell Latitude 5430), it would suggest there's an issue with your TinyPilot. If the green lines don't appear with a different target machine, it would suggest this laptop isn't outputting the correct display signal for some reason.
Could you try connecting your TinyPilot to a different target machine and check if you still see these green lines? If you have a different HDMI cable on hand, it may be worth trying to connect using that to rule out the cable too.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
HI there. Thanks for the response. So I tried a different HDMI cable it didn't really change much. Then I connected tiny pilot to a different target machine and I could still notice the same issue. The green line were still coming from time to time. So I am assuming may be the issue is with the device itself at this point? Just for more details the new target computer has the same settings as the first target machine with 1920x1080 at 60 Hz and tiny pilot is at 1920 x 1080 at 29.95 Hz. I also noticed that it gets worst when I connect tiny pilot to the internet via wifi instead of ethernet cable. I have attached a screenshot as well as my tiny pilot logs below . If the issue is with the device is there a way to have you guys switch it for me?

Update: I went to my friend's house to try his tiny pilot device to connect to my target computer. Just wanted to try and see. And it seems to work fine. No green lines whatsoever so it appears the issue might be with my tiny pilot device. Is there a way to have it swapped for me?
