Network boot option
- @cghague
Since most of the micro SD cards are prone to corruption at some point, can we network boot TP device and use as intended by connecting to the host machine and use it remotely?

Hi a7673, thanks for your question about network booting a TinyPilot device as an alternative to using a microSD card.
We've experimented with booting TinyPilot devices over the network but found the resulting experience didn't meet our expectations. I see that you're considering using an external drive, which is what we'd suggest as an alternative at the moment. I'd also suggest enabling the read-only filesystem to reduce the chances of filesystem corruption.
I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions.

So whatever I described here ( Seeing Error in Settings.yml #post-6 )happened on SD Card and a similar error when using a San disk PRO Flash Drive. Both are bricked. I am craving for reliability. I have already spent a lot of money for a little value TBH. And now for future updates I need to pay $99 everytime, which is a hole to my pcoket.

We want all our customers to have a great experience, and I'm sorry you're having reliability issues.
Filesystem corruption on a USB drive is very rare, and I'm not aware of it ever happening when the read-only filesystem is enabled, so this is very unusual. It's possible that outside factors could be involved.
Is the TinyPilot device located in an area with lots of electrical noise (e.g., in a factory or near large motors), and does it have a reliable power supply?
