Cannot boot device to USB Media

By @davepav

    Hello,

I am running a Tiny Pilot on version 2.7.0. Via WinSCP, I have transferred a bootable ISO file to the Mele and used your CLI commands to make it visible to the device. If I mount the ISO image to the running device, its contents are visible. For this particular model of device/BIOS when using a physical USB device, this worked normally.

Once I turn on the client device, and having mounted the ISO from TinyPilot in Flash Drive mode, I am able to see the TinyPilot instances in the BIOS, but I cannot see it on the boot list. Before I get too far down the rabbit hole, can I use UEFI to boot to a virtual media provided by the Tiny Pilot ? If so, from everything I am reading, it looks like I need to register that device as a boot device in the BIOS.

    Thank you,
    Dave

Hi Dave, thanks for reaching out and for the detailed explanation.

To help us better understand your setup, could you clarify what you mean by “Mele”? Are you referring to your TinyPilot device or the system you're trying to control (the target machine)?

Also, when you mentioned using CLI commands to mount the ISO, were those executed on the TinyPilot device, and could you share which commands you used? Most users are able to upload and mount ISOs through TinyPilot’s web interface, so we want to make sure we're aligned on the process.

Once we confirm that, it would be helpful to know the make, model, and BIOS vendor/version of the target machine, as well as which ISO file you’re trying to boot. Just as a heads-up, TinyPilot doesn’t support mounting Windows ISOs reliably due to size and installer limitations, so if that’s what you're attempting, that could be part of the issue.

Knowing those details will help us understand the setup better and guide you more effectively from there.
