Noise
- @david
The cooling fan on my TinyPilot has started making a lot of noise. I can unplug it and let it cool down to room temperature, it is quiet when it starts again but then gets noisy after an hour or so.
Is there a fix?

Is it possible to replace the fan with a passive solution? I got a couple and it is too noisy!

Hi @tinyuser2022, sorry that you have issues with noisy fans.
Is the fan noise louder than when you first started using your devices? Or is it just that the noise is too loud by default?

It is not a defect but they are getting hotter since i use them all day long. Also due to in room heating the main temperature gets higher so the fan spins up. But since i have not one device it is getting too noisy now. I need a solution.

did you find a solution to the problem? I have a tinypilot that has become very loud and I need to use it for 8 hours during the working hours in the day time. The sound has started to disturb in my meetings as it is very loud.

Hi all, i am running now 3 of these devices and it is getting too loud even after replacing the "cheap fans". What can i do to implement a passive cooling system ? I dont care what it costs. - just make it quite. Thank you

Hi @tinyuser2022, I'm sorry your devices are still too loud even after replacing the fans.
It sounds like there isn't a problem with the fans, rather the noise is just too loud. I don't have any recommendations for implementing a passive cooling system right now, unfortunately. I'm not sure there are heat sinks available that would fit.
Can you tell me about your TinyPilot devices? For instance, are they Power over Ethernet or USB-C-powered models? And do you know whether they're TinyPilot Voyager 2 (3D printed case) or TinyPilot Voyager 2a (metal case) models?
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi there, i do power them over ethernet and they are 3d printed plastic models. These little fans are just to tiny and too loud. I see on Amazon that you can buy heat sinks for raspberry pie devices. Is the problem with HDMI - is it getting too hot?

Thanks for those details, @tinyuser2022.

Cooling requirements on TinyPilot devices have changed a few times over the years as we've updated the hardware. The HDMI capture hardware doesn't require cooling as far I know. Newer TinyPilot devices use different fans and a simple fan controller that only turns on the fans when the device gets too warm. I've sent you an email so we can discuss this further.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
