Bullseye / RealVNC / Desktop

    Hi,
Am I correct that all TinyPilot devices now ship on Bullseye?
Bullseye supports adding RealVNC as a server/service. I recall other threads here saying VNC wasn't supported; is installing it via Bullseye (apt -y install realvnc-vnc-server" allowed, blocked, or in some other way useless, for the TinyPilot?

If there is no desktop, are you allowing / blocking one, or just not preinstalling?

    Thank you.

Hi Bruce, thanks for your question about VNC support.

Unfortunately, the RealVNC server only allows remote access to a desktop environment on the same machine it is installed on. As your TinyPilot device doesn't have a desktop environment, installing RealVNC wouldn't serve any purpose.

We don't prevent users from installing anything on their TinyPilot devices, meaning you can, in theory, install a headless desktop environment and access it using RealVNC if you wish. However, it wouldn't be something we could support, and a headless desktop environment consumes significant resources, so I recommend against it.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions.
